Government Takes Action Against 8 YouTube Channels Spreading Misinformation

In a recent announcement on Tuesday, the government revealed that it has taken action against eight YouTube channels, collectively amassing nearly 23 million subscribers, for disseminating false and misleading information.

The flagged YouTube channels, namely Yahan Sach Dekho, Capital TV, KPS News, Sarkari Vlog, Earn Tech India, SPN9 News, Educational Dost, and World Best News, were subjected to thorough fact-checking by the Press Information Bureau. Their content had been spreading misinformation on a range of subjects, including the premature declaration of Lok Sabha polls and the alleged banning of electronic voting machines.

World Best News, boasting a substantial subscriber base of over 1.7 million and more than 18 crore views, was found to be misrepresenting information about the Indian Army, officials reported.

Educational Dost, a channel with over 3.43 million subscribers and 23 crore views, was observed disseminating false information regarding various government schemes. Meanwhile, SPN9 News, having accumulated over 4.8 million subscribers and 189 crore views, was found to be propagating fabricated news involving the president, prime minister, and several central ministers.

Sarkari Vlog, with a subscriber count exceeding 4.5 million and over 9.4 crore views, was flagged for circulating deceptive news about government initiatives.

KPS News, boasting more than one million subscribers and over 13 crore views, came under scrutiny for disseminating fake news concerning government schemes, orders, and decisions, including misleading claims about the availability of cooking gas cylinders and petrol at unusually low prices.

Capital TV, boasting over 3.5 million subscribers and more than 160 crore views, was found to be promoting false narratives about the prime minister, government policies, and the imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal.

The YouTube channel Yahan Sach Dekho, with a substantial audience of over 3 million subscribers and over 100 million views, was discovered to be spreading misinformation about the Election Commission and the Chief Justice of India.

Lastly, Earn India Tech, with a smaller subscriber count of over 31,000 and 3.6 million views, was found responsible for disseminating fake news related to Aadhar cards, PAN cards, and other related matters.

The government’s move to address these channels underscores its commitment to combating the spread of misinformation and promoting accurate and reliable information among the public.
