A man was arrested on Thursday after he discharged a firearm inside the Sealdah-Rajdhani Express. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties.
The incident occurred when the passenger, identified as Harvinder Singh (41), who had boarded the train at Dhanbad station in Jharkhand, was en route to New Delhi. Eastern Railways officials reported that the altercation began with the coach attendant, and it escalated to the point where the passenger fired his pistol.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident. The train staff took prompt action by offloading the passenger at Koderma and subsequently handed him over to the state police.
Authorities are investigating whether the passenger may have been under the influence of alcohol during the incident.
It’s worth noting that a shooting incident occurred in July on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express train, wherein a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, Chetan Choudhary, shot and killed his escort duty in-charge, Assistant Sub-Inspector Tika Ram Meena, as well as three other passengers. The constable initially held passengers at gunpoint, but he was ultimately apprehended by the RPF, and the weapon was confiscated near Dahisar.
