AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal Reiterates Commitment to INDIA Bloc Amidst Fresh Row with Congress
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has affirmed his party’s commitment to the Opposition’s INDIA bloc despite a recent dispute between AAP and the Congress in Punjab following the arrest of Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira in an old drugs case.
During a press conference, Kejriwal stated, “The AAP will not separate ways from the INDIA alliance.” He also emphasized his party’s dedication to eradicating the drug menace in Punjab, saying, “In the fight against the drug menace, nobody will be spared however big or small position they might be in.”
Khaira’s arrest has fueled tensions between AAP and the Congress, with leaders from the Congress criticizing the Kejriwal-led party.
Punjab Police conducted a raid on the Chandigarh residence of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira and arrested him in connection with an old case registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Khaira had argued that the case had already been quashed by the Supreme Court. However, he was taken into custody based on the recommendation of a probe conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a DIG rank officer and two SSPs.
In response to Khaira’s arrest, Congress leaders criticized the AAP government in Punjab. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring characterized it as an act of “political vendetta.”
This development underscores the ongoing political tensions between the AAP and the Congress in Punjab, with both parties vying for dominance in the state’s political landscape.
