On Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hemant Patil paid a visit to a government hospital in Maharashtra’s Nanded district, where 31 patients had tragically passed away within a span of two days.
During his visit, Patil made an unusual demand, instructing the dean to personally clean a severely neglected toilet with a broom.
This act was captured on camera as Patil, along with other hospital administration members, looked on. Patil not only held the doctors at the hospital responsible for the fatalities, which occurred between September 30 and October 2, but also insisted on filing a murder case against them.
He further inspected the hospital’s facilities, finding filthy conditions in the dean’s toilet block and locked bathrooms in the children’s area, while the women’s section was littered with liquor bottles. Patil called for swift and strict action against the dean and the hospital’s department head, emphasizing that significant improvements to the hospital’s condition were contingent on such measures.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has pledged a thorough investigation into the deaths, promising “appropriate action” against those responsible. Additionally, the state government has formed a committee to delve into the matter, according to Maharashtra Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif.
