“Delhi Government Issues Gazette Notification Regarding Traffic Restrictions for G20 Summit; Impact on Goods Vehicles and Taxis”
On Monday, the Delhi government released a gazette notification outlining the traffic restrictions put in place for the upcoming G20 summit.
As per the notification, several categories of vehicles will face restrictions. Goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, inter-state buses, and local city buses, including those operated by Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), will not be allowed to operate on specific routes. These restrictions will be enforced from midnight on the night of September 7-8 until September 10.
The notification also states that Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs), and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) will not be permitted to enter Delhi from 9:00 PM on September 7, 2023, until 11:59 PM on September 10, 2023. However, goods vehicles transporting essential commodities such as milk, vegetables, fruits, and medical supplies, and holding valid “no-entry permissions,” will be exempt from this restriction.
The entire area of New Delhi district will be designated as “Controlled Zone-I” from the morning of September 8 until September 10. During this period, only genuine residents, authorized vehicles, and vehicles engaged in essential services like housekeeping, catering, waste management for hotels, hospitals, and other crucial establishments in the district will be allowed to use C-Hexagon, India Gate, and other roads.
Furthermore, from 5:00 AM on September 9, 2023, to 11:59 PM on September 10, 2023, no Three-Wheeler Scooter Rickshaws (TSR) and taxis will be permitted to enter or operate within the New Delhi district.
However, all types of commercial vehicles, including buses already present in Delhi, will be permitted to travel on the Ring Road and the road network beyond it towards the city’s borders.
Additionally, taxis carrying legitimate residents and tourists with valid hotel bookings within the New Delhi district, intending to reach New Delhi railway station, will be allowed to navigate the road network within the district.
Notably, vehicles belonging to the armed forces, paramilitary forces, police, disaster management, fire services, ambulances, and those involved in emergency services like road maintenance, electricity supply, water and sewage infrastructure, and communication networks will have unrestricted access throughout Delhi during this period.
