MPs and MLAs from the Delhi BJP, along with other party leaders, organized a prayer meeting at Rajghat, seeking the “liberation” of the people from what they view as the “corrupt” AAP government.
The arrest of AAP lawmaker Sanjay Singh in connection with a money laundering case linked to the now-defunct excise policy led to protests and counter-protests in India’s national capital. AAP workers gathered at the party headquarters to protest against Singh’s arrest, while Delhi BJP leaders gathered at Rajghat for a prayer meeting, aiming to free people from what they perceive as the “corrupt” AAP government in the city.
Several AAP workers also assembled at the party’s office on DDU Marg, raising slogans against the central government and demanding Singh’s release. A scuffle ensued between AAP workers and the police, leading to the detention of some protesters.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva vowed to continue the struggle for the liberation of the people from the “corrupt” Arvind Kejriwal government. He alleged that the chief minister was the “mastermind” behind the alleged liquor scandal in Delhi.
Sachdeva cited Mahatma Gandhi’s views on alcohol, stating that it destroys both the body and the soul. He accused Kejriwal of not only destroying the soul but also the entire Aam Aadmi Party.
BJP MP Harshvardhan criticized AAP leaders for their previous visits to Rajghat, suggesting that they were now violating political ethics. Another BJP lawmaker, Parvesh Sahib Singh, asserted that the “liquor scam was unearthed” with the “blessings of Gandhi ji,” who always opposed alcohol. Sahib Singh confidently claimed that the day was not far when Kejriwal, the alleged mastermind of the liquor policy, would also go to jail.
In response, the AAP alleged that the Enforcement Directorate arrested Sanjay Singh because he raised issues related to the Adani Group in Parliament. At a press conference, senior AAP leader Atishi stated that over 500 officers from the ED and CBI had conducted raids on various locations associated with AAP leaders over the last 15 months but had not found any evidence of corruption. She challenged the BJP to make any evidence against Sanjay Singh public or quit politics. Atishi claimed that they had raided every inch of Singh’s residence and found nothing. She suggested that Singh was targeted because he consistently raised concerns about the central government’s corruption.
