Prohibitory Orders Enforced Ahead of Independence Day Celebrations
In preparation for Independence Day, the Delhi Police have enacted prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in key areas including Rajghat, ITO, and Red Fort. The move, aimed at maintaining security, restricts gatherings of any kind in these localities. Delhi Police communicated this development through their official platform, X (formerly Twitter).
This year’s Independence Day ceremony will witness a diverse delegation of US lawmakers in attendance. Notably, Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna and Congressman Michael Waltz are slated to be present at Red Fort. Their presence will be complemented by Congress members Deborah Ross, Kat Cammack, Shri Thanedar, Jasmine Crockett, Rich McCormick, and Ed Case.

The Independence Day celebrations, taking place on August 15, include the prime minister’s annual address to the nation from the iconic Red Fort. To bolster security, the Border Security Force (BSF) has initiated “Operation Alert,” a heightened surveillance effort along the India-Pakistan International Border from August 11 to August 17. Increased security checkpoints, augmented camel and foot patrols, and heightened vigilance are part of this initiative, as Inspector General of Border Security Force (Rajasthan Frontier) Puneet Rastogi explained.
The Union Ministry of Culture launched a 21-day nationwide campaign called ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ to pay homage to the nation’s fallen heroes and to mark the culmination of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (AKAM). The campaign, which culminates on August 30, is set to conclude with a ceremony at Kartavya Path in the presence of distinguished guests.
As part of the campaign, an ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ will take place. Soil collected from various corners of the country will be transported in 7,500 pots to create an ‘Amrit Vatika’ in Delhi, symbolizing the commitment to the concept of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India). This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, announced during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast.
