In the ongoing Anantnag encounter, which has now entered its third day, another soldier who had been missing since yesterday (Thursday) has been tragically found dead. The death toll in this Anantnag operation has now risen to four. Among the casualties are the senior Army officers Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonak, along with Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Humayun Bhat.
This intense confrontation began on Wednesday, September 13, as a combined team of Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, engaged in a protracted gunfight with terrorists in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.
Security officials reported that the missing soldier had vanished during joint security operations against the terrorists in the Anantnag region. To locate and neutralize the terrorists holed up in the area, security forces have deployed drones to drop grenades on suspected hideouts, as well as employing grenade launchers. Quadcopters and drones are also assisting in the effort to pinpoint the terrorist’s positions. Furthermore, forces have used mortar shells based on drone surveillance to target the suspected locations where terrorists are believed to be hiding.
This tragic encounter unfolded in Gadole, located in the Kokernag area of south Kashmir, resulting in the loss of Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak, Humayun Bhat, and a soldier in their brave fight against the terrorists.
