“Sonia Gandhi Writes Letter to PM, Highlights Nine Key Issues for Upcoming Parliament Session”
Sonia Gandhi, the Chief of the Congress Parliamentary Party, has penned a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outlining nine crucial matters to be addressed during the forthcoming special session of Parliament. The issues encompass concerns about the current economic situation, including inflation and unemployment, recent disclosures related to the Adani group, the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe, the imperative need for a caste census, as well as topics such as attacks on India’s federal structure, natural disasters following recent floods, the India-China border situation, incidents of communal tension across the nation, and the ongoing circumstances in Manipur.
Gandhi dispatched this letter following discussions among Opposition parties regarding the agenda they intend to raise during the special Parliament session scheduled from September 18 to 22. It is noteworthy that this session was convened without prior consultations, and the government has not shared the agenda—a departure from the usual practice. The Congress expressed its readiness to discuss these matters under any parliamentary rule and emphasized the necessity of passing a resolution in the House concerning the India-China issue.
In her letter, Sonia Gandhi highlighted nine prominent issues. These include the prevailing economic challenges, encompassing price hikes, unemployment, and the concerns of the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). The second issue relates to the agricultural sector and demands an update on the government’s engagements with farmer organizations, as well as the status of assurances given to them, including those concerning the Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee law.
Additionally, the letter underscores the importance of conducting a caste census, emphasizing that the absence of such a census has excluded 14 crore people from the benefits of the Food Security Act. The Congress also called for a comprehensive discussion on the dynamics between the central and state governments. In Opposition-ruled states, concerns have been raised regarding the actions of governors, creating obstacles in the governance process.
