Ukrainian Singer Uma Shanti, Member of EDM-Meets-Vedic Band ‘Shanti People,’ Faces Charges for Disrespecting Indian Flag During Pune Concert
Ukrainian artist Uma Shanti, known as the lead vocalist of the musical ensemble ‘Shanti People,’ which combines electronic dance music (EDM) with Vedic mantras, has been accused of disrespecting the Indian tricolor during a performance at a Pune event held on the eve of Independence Day.
Uma Shanti, who was seen holding and waving the national flag while on stage, reportedly tossed the flag into the audience, resulting in her and event organizer Kartik More being booked under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Maharashtra Police Act, according to an official from the Mundhwa police station.
Authorities have issued a notice to both the singer and the event organizer, urging them to cooperate with the investigation into the incident.
